Paradizoo: Power Of Three Promotes Free Agri-Education

Mendez, Cavite– Paradizoo, one of Zoomanity Group parks, re-unfolds Power of Three (floral, vegetable and agri-livestock festival), from January to March 2018. ‘Teamwork makes the dream work’ PRRC and TESDA to team up for a vision for ISF’s

The Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC), has been resettling informal settler families (ISFs) living along the banks of the Pasig River and its tributaries considered danger zones to safe, decent, and socialized housing units provided by the PRRC, National Housing Authority (NHA) and concerned local government units (LGUs).
Since its creation in 1999 to present, the commission was able to resettle a total of 17,561 ISFs in resettlement sites established and/or managed by PRRC, NHA, and the City Government of Mandaluyong.
The beneficiaries of the resettlement program were provided with livelihood developments that were meant to hone the skills of the relocatees so they could use these for their own economic development. The skills they would have honed through the trainings should have helped them generate income. 
Job referrals and placement were vital components of the commission’s action plan as it ensured that the relocated households were not economically displaced. 
As of end of December 2008, a total of 2,516 families have participated in skills training provided by PRRC. The training included building wiring, welding, dressmaking, bakeshop operations, food processing, horticulture and others. 
Inasmuch as numerous training programs had already been implemented, it seems that only a few had benefitted from these in terms of improving the economic status of the relocated families. Even with the skills the beneficiaries have learned from the trainings and seminars, some have reported of having difficulties securing start-up capital to put up businesses. Moreover, the beneficiaries needed skills training that would be able to help them realize sufficient income to address their daily needs.
Last October 5, 2017, the PRRC, led by Executive Director Jose Antonio E. Goitia, had exploratory talks with TESDA’s Director-General Hon. Guiling “Gene” A. Mamondiong and Deputy Director-General Rebecca Calzado to address the issues on post-resettlement economic conditions of the resettled families due to unemployment and lack of entrepreneurial opportunities in the relocation sites. 
Through the collaboration with TESDA, PRRC will embark on a project titled Pagsasanay Panghanapbuhay Tungo sa Riwasang Danay [Training for Work for Progressive Suburbs] Project to provide the families an access to adequate and appropriate technical education and skills development trainings and seminars.
Executive Director Goitia excitedly said that “PRRD Project aims to empower and build the capacity of the ISF’s to improve their lives through technical-vocational training” He also added that this, “[PRRD Project] is also to provide the unskilled, low-skilled, out-of-school youth, and women members of the ISFs with skills that would qualify them for entry-level wage employment, and that they could use to pursue self-employment in the services sector, or even in home-based, income-earning entrepreneurship activities.” 
Both PRRC and TESDA recognize the urgent need to reduce poverty in the rural areas where most government-established and -managed resettlement sites are situated the project. The team up of PRRC with TESDA would intend to evaluate the skills training needs of the ISFs, recommend the training courses and methodologies as appropriate and providing the training through TESDA’s accredited training institutions. 
Executive Director Goitia remarkably said that the collaboration of PRRC with TESDA is indeed a start of something new for all of us. He also added, “There is a Chinese proverb that goes, ‘Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime’, I am envisioning a life full of hope and dreams for these families, hence, the project”.

Pancake / Flappy cake for breakfast

When I found a pancake recipe that works, I never bought a boxed pancake anymore. Its cheaper, my kids love it and the boys love making it…

Here are the ingredients:

1 cup flour

2 Tbsp sugar

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

Mix all dry ingredients and set aside.

1 cup buttermilk { Substitute: 3/4 cup full cream milk and 1 Tbsp vinegar}

1 egg

2 Tbsp melted butter 

Combine dry ingredients and wet ingredients. Mix until combined, don’t over mix. 

Add your favorites… My boys love chocolate chip, peanut butter and Oreo. You can definitely go for healthier options like banana, mango, peach or other fruits. You can also put oatmeal for more fiber.  There is no rule how you can make a good breakfast.. So be creative with it.

Emergency Preparedness kit

Earthquake, fire, tsunami, flood, typhoon or even a terrorist attack. We all need to be prepared from all these unpredictable circumstances. These gruelling events are in fact something that we cannot control, its written, all we can do is be prepared for any of these events. 

Its was 2 years ago when I attended a certification from Safety Organization of the Philippines (SOFI), a  training for Basic Occupational Safety and Health.  The talks about The Big One was already highlighted even before everyone was talking about it. The recent moving of the Earth plates are experienced around the country in numerous instances. I myself experienced the shake twice in 2 months.

When you are living with toddlers, it is almost obligatory to have an emergency plan prepared. Prayer is top on our list. We also have an emergency kit stored at the back of the main door, just in case anything happens. I suggest that everyone should have one in every household. Its better to be prepared than sorry. 

Here is the emergency kit we contiously build and keep adding little things from time to time. 

I will let you have a peak on what we have so far. It is stil work in progress.

• Flashlight or torch
• Paracord with flint
• Whistle
• Portable knife

For all battery operated gadget such flashlight, transistor radio. Batteries should be inside the gadget, just make sure its depolarised so the batteries will not get flat.

• Instant coffee
• Canned goods (ginamit ko muna, pinangalmusal namin 🙂 )

Make sure the food and water are not expired. Yes, bottled water expires. 

Activity pack for kids.

I keep these documents in a zipper bag.

You’ll never know when there is a need to rappel. Char!

Lack of storage and too many spices {DIY}

Let me share with you my space saver tip to store spices when spice rack cannot afford to house them anymore or if you do not have a spice rack to store them.

I keep all jars from fruit preserves, peanut butter, sardines and wash them clean.

I label with stickers like these: 

Stick Velcro tape on the lid and shelf. 

… a happy momma I was… Spices stored fresh and  functional.

Go ahead try it… Its one of my favorite diy to date…

BOBA Milk Tea

BOBA milk tea, Bubble tea, Pearl tea, tapioca tea… Whatever its called… I like it!

When you’re craving for something you itch for days but you’re at you’re wits end because getting out of the house is just impossible, especially if your stuck with toddlers. You finally get your pantry cleaned and hoping very hard you have tapioca balls and condensed milk hiding somewhere. The feeling of having these 2 things you’ve been looking for showed up,  gave you the clear definition of hope for this day. Then, you realized that tapioca balls take forever cook. You just drool with anticipation. 

Here’s how I made my version of tiny BOBA tea

The ingredients:

Sago or tapioca balls (I had small sago in my pantry, so this is what I used) BOBA tea, uses Big sago, black pearl.

Tea bag of your choice.  These hibiscus tea were given by  a great friend. Smells soooo good too.

Sweetened condensed milk

Procedure:

Cook tapioca balls by boiling in water until translucent. Drain and set aside.

Steep 2 bags of tea in a water.

Pour condensed milk in a glass

Pour tea in a glass over condensed milk.

Stir tea and milk together. Then add tapioca balls. 

Can serve hot or cold.. 

I like mine cold…  🙂 so I filled mine with ice cubes..

… With these 3 ingredients you will be surprised how much joy it brings. Definitely deserve the #cravingsatisfied hashtag as the tapioca balls whirl inside your mouth as you sip and that sweet milky refreshing tea goes down your throat. If this is not refreshing, then I don’t know what is…
